Bob Pepek Can Work It Out

This week’s artist is definitely a switch up from the type of music that I listen to and write about. It is a rock artist that goes by Bob Pepek, but the difference in genre doesn’t affect my ears when listening to him, especially with his latest single being We Can Work It Out, a cover of The Beatles of the same name. The Connecticut singer/songwriter is a veteran when it comes to releasing music, with his first official release to streaming being the 2009 EP, From The Let Go, and dropping consistently between then and now with the single Down Here in 2015, the album Pratfalls and Curtain Calls in 2017 and his 2021 single Silver Lining

Now to dive into the song, it is hard to cover arguably the most revered band of all time, as fans of the original probably will only be loyal to The Beatles’ version, and the fact of having to recreate the magic created by The Beatles, while not completely copying them. Despite the uphill battle, I was impressed with Pepek’s cover. As far as the production goes, it sounds more modern, with the instruments taking up more in the mix without compromising the space dedicated to his vocals.

His version sounds more present, but not just because of the instruments. Pepek’s voice has a way of slicing through the instrumental, giving a feeling that he’s right in front of your face (or beside your ears). He also performed the song by himself, as opposed to the harmonies presented by the 60’s band. HIs voice has a tone that conveys emotion, even if you can’t pinpoint what that emotion is at the time, but you can always hear the passion behind his singing, the passion for whatever subject he’s singing about and for his craft. You can tell that he pours his all into his songs, whether covers or not, well at least I can tell. I’m glad I discovered this song and Bob Pepek himself.

Make sure to follow him on Spotify and YouTube so that you don’t miss any of his new work including his upcoming project Out With the Old, which will feature We Can Work It Out.
