Phxllz Trusts in the Signs In Life

This week’s artist hails from Bristol, United Kingdom and is a budding international rapper in the hip hop scene. I am referring to Phxllz by way of the group Alwayz On Point, who just released a project called Q0Q featuring artists Avasi, Finesse and Danky. The sonic brand displayed by these up and coming artists is versatile with an emphasis on melody, especially Phxllz, who stands out on multiple tracks on the project including Trust and Signs of Life, as well as a collab record with Danky, the certified banger, Paper.

The English accent is prevalent, of course, but the production isn’t what I’m accustomed to from “rappers” from the UK. Instead of the high tempo, syncopated break beats of grime, or the sliding 808s and tresillo hats of UK drill, Phxllz prefers to rap (or sing) over US style modern trap beats. Each song mentioned earlier, has its own flavor of rattling hats and catchy melodic instrumentals.

The first song that caught my ear is Trust. In the record, Phxllz flowed seamlessly, flexing his melodic talents over flutes and acoustic guitars, my personal favorite production combination. As you probably have guessed, Trust is about the lack of trust felt and encountered by the UK artists. The second song that stood out to me was Signs In Life, with a similar sound but with a piano instead of flutes and guitars. Signs In Life is a subtle motivational banger commenting on the grind needed to be successful in life. My favorite song by far is Paper though, with Danky complete with a video and vocal samples in the background. Instead of the melodic flows I grew accustomed to from Phxllz, he delivered potent bars, offsetting the melodic riffs from Danky.

Phxllz has been featured on popular publications such as LINKUP TV, MIXTAPEMADNESS, GRMDAILY and more, and it’s only the start. He is on his way to the top, showcasing his versatility as an artist within Alwayz On Point, and the sky's the limit. Make sure to follow his Instagram and Spotify and follow Alwayz On Point on Spotify and YouTube.
