Take It To The XTREM with Shy Goon

Today’s artist, Shy Goon, hails from Fairfield, Connecticut, bringing a unique take on the trap production usually associated with drug dealing rappers. Specifically, his latest single, DIOR XTREM, embodies a futuristic trap beat, which reminds me of March Madness by Future, but with subject matter more applicable to the average young adult.

Many artists have to have the perfect conditions to create art, but Goon is not one of them, as he started creating his art using only GarageBand for an IPad. “Art” is the appropriate word because his music is an engulfing experience, and not just something you listen to in the background. DIOR XTREM, featuring Dennydidit, immediately grabs your attention with the futuristic synths and rattling hi hats before ushering in a booming baseline and lyrics depicting Goon’s life as a modern matrix. Essentially, his life is what the blue pill embodies with the awareness of the red. His life is great to the point that he could be in a “glitch”, but he knows of the reality in which someone, specifically a girl, could affect his day. This enables him to move with caution and the awareness mentioned earlier. 

The Fairfield rapper has released consistently every year with his first solo project, ‘03 Cancun, in 2019. He followed it up with Crying in Mascara in 2020, 4TH GEAR in 2021, and DAYS B4 KROW in 2022. In 2023, his sights are set on the release of a project titled KROW, with DIOR XTREM being the first single.
