Statements from JBadge

On February 10th, JBadge blessed us with his latest release, Statements, and let me be the first to say, he’s bringing the feeling of the roots of hip hop back. Originating from Fairfield, California, JBadge is not afraid to show his influences, as his new song is a modern version of the G-Funk that made west coast hip hop so popular in the 90’s, but without the synths and the west coast flow.

If I had to place him on any mainstream label today, it would definitely be Top Dawg Entertainment, as the song reminded me of Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar, which is fitting because it was mixed by Kendrick’s engineer, MixedByAli. That’s another thing that stands out from this song, it sounds amazing. I can tell JBadge is a business man that cares about his craft, because he’s not only willing to invest into his art, but is also selling the song independently. I’m always a fan of artists who control their own destiny, and you should be too.

As far as the content of Statements, JBadge does not hide his intent, modern day rappers are just that, rappers, and not the drug dealers and killers that they say they are. In an era where that type of content is thriving, JBadge clearly wants to see a change, with realism in hip hop being brought to the forefront. This is another reminder of his similarity to previous eras, with his focus on content and not false claims to garner attention.

As Statements won’t be available on streaming platforms, give it a listen here, and make sure that you follow him on Instagram and Twitter, as well as his tiktok
