What will Franklin Stone’s Legacy be?

Franklin Stone is back with another EP, Legacy. His sophomore EP is different from his debut Seasons in almost every way. The lone similarity between the two projects is the use of acoustic guitars within the production, and how he uses them. Besides that, the differences stood out to me immediately.

For one, the tone of this project is different. Where I thought that Seasons was a look into Stone’s past, I feel like Legacy is a look into his future. The emotional content and connection is different, Legacy has a bouncier and happier tone to it, reminding me of spring or new beginnings. Also where Seasons had at least one record aimed at a woman demographic, and arguably three, I can’t detect any songs on Legacy that were made with women in mind.

But enough of what I thought about the project for now, I got the opportunity to sit down and talk to Stone about Legacy for a glimpse into his mindset while making the project:

I’m glad to see you’re back, it definitely didn’t take you long to release another project.

Yeah, Ambiguity wasn’t much work up front for me because I’d had all of the vocals recorded already and I let my man KevKov do his thing on production, and most of the music for Seasons and Legacy were skeletons from an album I’ve wanted to release or poured out because of what I was going through, so it doesn’t take long for me to create once I’m in the zone.

Well I’m happy you’re back, and I assume in good spirits, I feel like this project has a happier tone to it, was that something you set out to do, or did it happen organically because of the space you’re in?

Well honestly, a mix of both. It's about to be spring and we’re coming off the beginning of a new year so I wanted to release something that could be played outside when the world got back to normal and the weather was nicer, but I’m also in a better space than I was when making Seasons. I had a baby and she’s healthy so I’ve recovered from the tragedy I suffered during that time.

Congratulations on the baby, how has having a child affected your creation process?

Definitely, finding time to work on music is harder but my daughter inspired this project in one way or another so I can’t complain. I have things in the works but it might take a little longer to release.

I can’t wait to hear what you’re working on, but I want to focus on this project, can you tell us about it?

Yeah, this project I wanted to focus on rapping more, bringing new flows and punchier beats. It’s also more conceptual than my previous work. It’s about a black renegade battling between the positives and negatives of being black in America. I also did a video for Legend and so far it’s performing pretty well, I wanted to focus more on my YouTube presence this go ‘round.

Interesting concept, I guess I didn’t see it at first but it makes sense now that you’ve told me. Well I appreciate you taking the time to sit and tell us about your project. I assume you’ll be back for your next release. Until then you can purchase or stream the album here.
